Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has been accused of pushing and shoving a woman during a dispute at a Cleveland hotel. No charges were filed against Hunt, but that may not be the end of the issue. Police reports were taken with both Hunt and the woman being charged as suspects, turning the whole situation a back-and-forth between her group of friends and Hunt’s group of friends. After a night of partying, Hunt and his friends reportedly kicked a group of women out of their hotel apartment upon learning they were actually 19, and not allowed to legally drink. At that point, two stories emerge. According to the woman, she was kicked out of the apartment because she “didn’t want” one of the men in Hunt’s group. The women stayed in the hallway, and pounded on Hunt’s door for roughly a half hour. That’s when Hunt’s group reportedly came out to make the women leave. During that dispute, Hunt is accused of shoving the woman. Hunt claims he went to bed and asked someone to call security after the women would not leave. One of the women in Hunt’s group claims she was punched in the face when confronting the two other women in the hallway. One of Hunt’s friends also claims the women called them a racial slur when asked to leave. There are plenty of other accusations in the Cleveland.com piece, one of which claims someone in Hunt’s group destroyed a cell phone and another that calls the women who Hunt pushed “uncooperative” with police. Due to the back-and-forth nature of the complaints, it’s unclear if anything else will come out of the confrontation. The 22-year-old Hunt grew up in Ohio and played football at Toledo. He led the NFL in rushing during his rookie season with the Chiefs.

Getting fired is never a great feeling, but there is an upside for NFL players who get released between the Super Bowl and the start of the new league year. There’s a lot less competition for jobs than there is when free agency opens up, which means that you get a lot of eyes on you once you hit the open market. Cornerback David Amerson is in that position right now. He’s visited with the Bears and Texans and reportedly has other meetings lined up. None of those is with the 49ers, but that could change. Amerson’s agent included the Niners on a list of teams that have expressed interest in his client. Amerson was released by the Raiders last week after he missed 10 games during the 2017 season. Ahkello Witherspoon, Greg Mabin and K’Waun Williams are the 49ers corners under contract for next season.

Johnny Manziel recently did an interview that aired on “Good Morning America”, and in it he revealed that he’s sober, and also that he’s been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The 2014 first-round pick, who hasn’t played a snap in over two years, said that people have approached his family and asked, “What the hell is your son doing?,” and it wasn’t until the day his mother broke down recounting such an interaction with him that he realized how his behavior was affecting others. Manziel seemed to be quite forthcoming in speaking with reporter T.J. Holmes, saying of the behavior that led to him being booted by the Cleveland Browns after just two years: “I had a sense of entitlement about what I had accomplished and the age that I’d accomplished it, and it got so ingrained, only caring about what Johnny wanted. Even though I thought I was doing what I wanted, I was miserable.” Manziel said his “end goal, 100 percent” is to get back into the NFL: “Here’s the way I look at it: going back throughout the last couple years of my life, I was self-medicating with alcohol, and guess what: I thought it was making me happy and helping me get out of that depression to a point of where I felt like I had some sense of happiness. But at the end of that day, you’re left staring at the ceiling by yourself, and you’re back in that depression and back in that hole, that dark hole sitting in a room by yourself, being super-depressed, thinking about all the mistakes you’ve made in your life, what did that get me? Where did that get me except out ot the NFL? Disgraced? I went a solid five months until I really fell into a little bit of a depression, where I didn’t drink, I didn’t do anything, but still, i was going to therapy and the difference that I noticed was i started taking a look at my mental health a little bit and making it a priority in my life, to where I’m taking medicine for bipolar and I’m working to try and make sure I don’t fall back into any type of depression, because I know where that leads me and I know how slippery of a slope that is for me”. He said he was diagnosed with bipolar last year, at a facility in California: “I can’t help my mental makeup of how I was created, but if I stay on these meds, and I continue to do what I’m doing right now – I think my dad, my mom, Bre [he’s engaged to Bre Tiesi], they would all agree that they’ve seen a drastic change”. But Manziel is realistic about his reality, saying, “Will that be the same going forward? I’d like to say yes. But at the end of the day, it’s to be seen.”
